What Is Plantar Fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, connecting
your heel bone to your toes. When this tissue becomes inflamed — usually from overuse, poor
footwear, or biomechanical issues — you develop plantar fasciitis.
Classic symptoms:
- Sharp heel pain with the first steps in the morning
- Pain that gets better after walking for a few minutes, then returns after prolonged activity
- Tenderness at the bottom of the heel when you press on it
- Pain after long periods of standing
What Causes It?
Plantar fasciitis is caused by repetitive strain on the fascia. Common risk factors: - Sudden increase in physical activity (new workout routine, more walking)
- Standing on hard floors all day (nurses, teachers, retail workers)
- Tight calves and Achilles tendons
- Flat feet or very high arches
- Worn-out or unsupportive shoes
- Excess weight placing more stress on the fascia
- Running or sports without proper warm-up
Treatments That Actually Work
- STRETCHING: The most evidence-based home treatment. Calf stretches and plantar fascia
stretches, done consistently morning and night, reduce pain in most patients within 6–8 weeks. - PHYSICAL THERAPY: A physical therapist can identify why your fascia is being overloaded
and address the root cause — whether that’s tight calves, weak foot muscles, or gait problems. - SPORTS MASSAGE: Deep massage of the calf, Achilles, and the sole of the foot reduces
tension and promotes healing. This is one of the most effective short-term pain relief methods. - ORTHOTIC INSOLES: Custom or semi-custom insoles can correct foot mechanics and take
pressure off the fascia during daily activity. - FOOTWEAR CHANGES: Switching to supportive shoes with good arch support and
cushioning makes a major difference.
What usually DOESN’T work long-term: cortisone injections alone (temporary relief without
fixing the cause), complete rest, and surgery (only for severe cases that haven’t responded to
anything else).
G Therapy Center’s Plantar Fasciitis Program
At our Doral clinic, we combine:
- Manual therapy and deep tissue massage of the foot and calf
- Our Bio G Scan footprint analysis to assess your gait and arch mechanics
- Custom orthotic recommendations
- A progressive exercise program to strengthen the foot and ankle
- Advice on footwear and activity modification
Most patients with plantar fasciitis feel significant improvement within 4–6 sessions. Don’t let
heel pain stop you.
